Poll shows Americans reject shutdown strategy from Democrats on major issue

A new New York Times/Siena poll shows nearly two-thirds of American voters say Democrats should not force a federal shutdown if their demands aren’t met.

The same poll indicates voters would blame both Republicans and Democrats, along with former President Trump, if the government shuts down.

At the center of the standoff is Democrats’ push to extend Affordable Care Act tax credits, which millions rely on for affordable healthcare, but Republicans oppose.

While 65% of voters reject a shutdown over the issue, many Democrats still support a tough stance, with 47% saying the party should be willing to shut down the government.
